It's more like instructive poison.
Unrelinquishing burning
that I can learn from.
Sin doesn't compare to what it is
the word sin is too small...overused.
So, I'll call it instructive poison.

When I sleep, I fear the darkness
not around me,
within me.
When I wake
I turn my back on the window that faces east
to look in the mirror.

I closed my eyes today
and it all looked the same.
What does that mean
to be so dark and filled with poison?

Small doses.
A day at a time.
Something I can use.

I thought it was a bit humorous...

Especially the idea that poison is instructive.

I wouldn't say humorous...more like horrific. I don't like a vile poison eating away at me if I do something wrong...that's like the worse reinforcement tool you could use.

Unless of course you're going through something horrible and you're taking bits of poison to build up a resistance or immunity...which I think might be implied in this piece.

I don't know that I found the poem itself humorous but the idea of classifying it as humorous made me chuckle.

I guess you could learn from your mistakes but how do you really expect to say sin, or instructive poison, is something you can use? Please explain.

Well, there are many devious uses I can think of...but I don't think Kendra can be very cruel on purpose or anything.

Yes...which is a good observation, Shaun. It's one of the two meanings a built into this one...thank you for thinking...it makes me smile.

Well then, it was completely worth it!

This poem is very personal, so I won't go into the raw meaning behind it, but I'll try to give you a brief overview. To sum up the message...or one of them, is simply to say that mistakes may hurt for your entire life, some days more than others, but what makes life bearable again is the knowledge that you could never do anything like that again. Sometimes I ask God to leave the pain but take away the sin, so I can remember how much it hurts. Understand?

I think all the time...therefore you'll always smile.

is simply to say that mistakes may hurt for your entire life

Yeah, you can say that again...or not so much a mistake as a regret.

both hurt and both may never fade with time. Sometimes we need to welcome the pain to better understand God's perfect plan..or just His way of making good out of something horrible. Whatever it is, there's a reason.

Or sometimes one just fucks up...I'm not sure about all that grand scheme...but I will admit to my own weaknesses.

I always find myself wondering if God planned for me to screw up so he could use it for good in the end...you know? Like, if God knows everything before we do it, but He also gives us the power of choice, how exactly does that work?! It's driving me insane thinking about messing up again and me not knowing it, but God does and there is no way for me to change it!

Well, that's where you have to choose. Do you believe in a pre planned destiny or do you believe you choose your own path? Or do you believe you choose different paths but end up in the same place in the end?

I prefer to think it's a matter of choice. I don't think there's anything set in stone...things can change in an instant, and it's all what you make and want out of life...or it's about what you don't do. Something like that.

Shaun, what you just said almost triggered a nice sized rant. I'll save that for an article simply so I get the points for any controversy that comes from it.

Well, that's quite the lofty term to give us.
